Welcome to Outpost. This is my personal blog where I write about technology, leadership, travel, and my hobbies.

At the time of writing, I have roughly 12 years of experience working in tech, most of which was spent building and operating large scale distributed systems. More recently, I’ve been focusing on keeping up with advances in AI and their applications across various domains.

In my spare time (of which I have very little these days after becoming a dad a few years ago), I like to run, 3D print, build custom mechanical keyboards, and obsess over coffee. I have plenty to share about all of those as well.

A word about my writing past:

This is my fourth attempt at writing online, however, I finally feel like I’ve found a permanent home for my content. It almost felt criminal not to have my own domain in this day and age, so I finally pulled the trigger and bought this domain! Having a dedicated domain feels personal and permanent. As someone who is cheap frugal, I plan on making the most of it!

I love reading well written content, and I save it both for my own reference and to keep up with the people whose work I respect and admire. A few friends and colleagues have asked me to share my reading list, so I will be doing that here as well.

My writing will mainly center around four topics:

  1. Distributed Systems and AI This is my day job, and I am constantly thinking about it. Naturally, I have a lot of thoughts, insights, and opinions in this space.

  2. Career Growth and Leadership Over my 12 years in big tech, I’ve fallen into my fair share of career pitfalls. I’d like to think I’ve recovered well from those stumbles and avoided making the same mistake twice. I also earned my leadership bearings from the school of hard knocks.

  3. Travel I love traveling and exploring national parks, historical landmarks, and storied cities. I want to share my reflections, itineraries, and takeaways along the way.

  4. Hobby Showcase Coffee, 3D printing, and mechanical keyboards are all rabbit holes hobbies with a high degree of customization and strong opinions. Look forward to DIY guides, opinion pieces, and show-and-tell posts.
